To our valued customer RH, I am surprised to see your negative review now, after you spoke with our facility manager on November 30th, 2020 (several weeks ago) and I thought we had resolved your concerns about the rent increase. When you spoke, she did in fact negotiate the rent increase down from a $20 increase to a $10 increase. Considering the industry average rate for the size unit you are currently renting is approximately $160.00 (we check our competitors pricing every 2 weeks to make sure we're being fair with our pricing structures) and our current rate for the size unit you are renting is $150.00 (or $142.50 for our online rate, which your original rate of $103.50 is an online rate), I feel like we took your concerns seriously and were fair in raising rent 6 months after you had moved in. At the time of your move in, I can assure you, our manager has never promised you or any potential client a rent increase would not happen for at least 1 year. Not only did I train her myself on how to answer common questions about the lease, I have personally sat in on many of her transactions and never heard her promise such a thing. Our facility and staff prides itself on providing the best quality services to all of our tenants, and lying would completely undermine those efforts. What I'm confident she did say was that rent increases do happen throughout the year, and in the past they generally have been small increases. Our lease is month to month and like I stated above, we check pricing and our current inventory every 2 weeks to make sure we're fair and competitive. When you signed our lease, prices across the industry were incredibly low because of the pandemic and the NYS shutdown. Since self storage is an essential business, we considered ourselves lucky just to be open at all. We did not expect pricing would climb so quickly since the spring, and have been trying to play catch up ever since. Not only did we provide you with more notice than the lease requires us to, we also reduced the amount of your rent increase, despite the fact we no longer have any units of the size you're renting and would financially benefit more if you moved out and we rented the unit at our current rate. As a small business, we value each and every one of our clients, knowing we would not be able to stay open without people like yourself. Unlike the big chains, we take into consideration the needs and concerns of the individual, which is why we were able to negotiate down your rent increase. I am sorry that even after reducing the rent increase you find the situation to be "bologna", I genuinely thought we had done the right thing.
