Have had a vehicle stored at this unit for 2 years. Twice my truck has been broken into. The first time was the truck box which is locked but I did not have a cover on the truck. Second time I had a cover installed so would make it harder for anyone to access anything and it was broken into again. The front gate is currently broken and permanently left open. Cameras are worthless. The Final nail in the coffin was when the truck was burglarized I get a notice that my rates are increasing by almost $20 a month. How is that for customer service "Sorry your vehicle was damaged and property was stolen, but pay us more for doing nothing". The answer was to have my insurance pay for everything. I can recieve that same kind of service parking my truck on the side of the road.
Edit to add photos of the gate. They wont bother to fix it do anyone can come and go and do whatever they want to. But they will be glad to raise the price of your rental.
Ft Knox is a block away, less expensive and better security, cameras and site access. Save your money and skip Midgard.
If you value your property, do not store it here. I lost over $16,000 in stolen items after my enclosed trailer was broken into twice in six days at this Midgard location. Both incidents involved forced entry and required police reports with the Lake County Sheriff and Leesburg Police Department.
The most alarming part is that the main gate had been broken and stuck open since May 14th, and it was still down past May 28th — the day of my second burglary. Staff confirmed this directly. For nearly two full weeks, the property was left completely unsecured, allowing non‑customers to freely enter, roam the facility multiple times, and plan their break‑ins. I will be uploading photos of the broken gate so people can see exactly how exposed this facility was during that time.
Midgard advertises “A‑class security” and “bright lighting,” but the reality is the opposite. There are major camera blind spots, including the exact area where my trailer was stored. During the first break‑in, the suspects were on the property for almost an hour without anyone noticing. Staff also admitted they’ve had ongoing trespassing issues, including people entering from a nearby homeless shelter and police having to remove individuals from the property.
And here’s what customers really need to know:
When something happens, Midgard will not share any security footage with you, even though it’s your property that was stolen. I was told the cameras are “for their use only.” My detective had to obtain a subpoena just to view the footage. Even after all that, the video quality was so poor that police couldn’t make out a description of the suspect.
The lack of accountability is unbelievable. When I tried to speak with someone in corporate, I was told they “don’t take calls” and was pushed off to their claims department. The claims department then told me to use my own insurance, offering no support whatsoever. They strictly enforce the contract you sign — the one that says they aren’t responsible for theft — even when the theft occurred during a period where they knowingly left the facility unsecured. Despite the clear negligence involved, they offered zero compensation for my loss.
What makes this even worse is that Midgard never notified customers that the main gate was broken. They knew theft was an issue in the area. They knew the gate had been down for weeks. They knew the property was exposed. And they still didn’t have the respect to alert the people paying to store their belongings there.
This is now the second major incident I’ve experienced at this same facility within six months. Between the broken gate, the lack of surveillance coverage, the refusal to release footage, the misleading security claims, the poor communication, the contract loopholes they hide behind, and the complete lack of corporate accountability, this facility fails to provide even basic security. I cannot recommend this location to anyone.

Heartless Bureaucracy and Exploitation After a Family Loss! No on-site management! A money grab for the company!
My father got a storage unit well over a decade ago, if not two. My father hadn’t been able to visit it for a few years due to illness, but payments continued to be debited regularly from his account right up until he passed away—and they are still being debited even now. What should have been a straightforward process to handle the unit and retrieve our family belongings has turned into months of frustration, stonewalling, and what feels like outright exploitation of a grieving family.
My mother was listed as a contact on the account. Yet after my father’s death, the facility claimed they could do nothing without specific court documents appointing an administrator of the estate. My parents do/did not have an estate, so this was impossible to provide. We immediately provided the requested death certificate (which clearly lists my mother as the survivor), identification, and everything else they initially requested via email. The end result was being told that we needed to provide the impossible to provide documents, so nothing we can do! Despite multiple in-person visits—including one with me, my husband, and my mother—we were repeatedly told we needed formal court-appointed administrator papers. My parents did not have a formal estate, and there is no management physically on the premises—simply a virtual machine that connects remotely to a corporate facility—making every attempt to resolve this even more impersonal and difficult. Navigating probate for a simple storage unit should not require this level of legal hassle.
Even worse, they continue to happily debit automatic payments while refusing access or any reasonable resolution. The facility recently installed a new locking system on all units that requires texting a number from the phone listed on the account to receive an access code. The listed number was my parents’ landline home phone. Of course, no text could be sent, and the system failed to work for us. We were locked out of our own belongings with no workable solution offered.
This company showed zero compassion or flexibility during one of the most difficult times a family can face. They demanded paperwork they knew (or should have known) wasn’t realistic for many families, while continuing to collect fees, which are now in excess of $420/mo. Their policies appear designed to extract money rather than provide the storage service we paid for over many years.
We did everything asked of us and were still denied access to items that hold immense sentimental value. At this point, it feels like they have effectively stolen our property through bureaucratic indifference.
I would strongly urge anyone considering this facility to think twice—especially if you value responsive customer service and basic human decency when life throws curveballs. If you’re a current customer, make sure you have the estate document set up for your survivors and consider the nightmare scenario we’ve endured.
My family will never recommend this company and I hope others can avoid the same painful experience. Our experience is requiring attorneys just to access it, clean it out, and stop the subscription. We don’t even know what is in the unit!
We arrived after the office had closed, Jewels came on the virtual machine and was an absolutely amazing helper in getting us access to our U-Haul rentals. Without her help, we would have not gotten our trucks and our move would have been delayed. Well done Jewels, thank you for being so understanding!
