To say the least, my visit & procurement of a 10 x 10 storage unit at Devon Storage was truly enlightening. As a retired NIS Detective, It has always been, “ Mission First ! “
Evidently, I faltered a bit. My due diligence and result oriented nature was jostled when arriving to the area. I had been searching for a storage facility that would meet my needs, as well as, my budget. It is somewhat embarrassing to me to admit but, there is no shame in my game. As long as, I see my task to fruition. No matter how long it may take.
I visited 4-5 Self Storage Facilities. First, Storage Sense - Paul H., deep in the heart of Berlin, 10-15 miles away. Very inconvenient.
I ended up at Cube Smart. I was anxious to settle down. After 8 months & horrible customer service, I had enough. ( read my review of Cube Smart on Google that I left about 2 months ago .)
We all deserve respectful, courteous- customer service. February 18, 2026 - 3pm ADIOS CS !
I thought that I had done my due diligence in my search for a reputable storage facility.
I was enlightened by a Friend, my Pastor @ Sonrise Church, and my current Landlord…
Contact Dickie Lawrence, Property Manager - at Devon Storage, they all echoed. I contacted Devon Storage and began a dialogue with “ Dickie ,” mid December 2025. The candor and respect in which he spoke to me was Epic. Dickie acknowledged that he knew all of the individuals whom had referred me to him, graciously. The problem was that I had no idea where Devon Storage was located. It turns out that Devon Storage was located not more than 2 minutes from Cube Smart. Tucked in a private well lit driveway. I met with Dickie Lawrence and his Assistant General Manager, Stephanie Beach. Consummate Professionals ! Product knowledge, Customer service, Bending over backwards in an effort to help me. Wow ! Devon Storage is a Full Service Facility with Climate Controlled Units and Regular Units in various dimensions. At Cube Smart ? You don’t have a choice. And, you will Pay for it ! Devon Storage has U-Haul Rentals which was very convenient for me. $19.95 a day or larger vehicles & trailers - on site.
Cube Smart advertises free use of their moving truck but, it is not free.
Everyone pays a Fee & with gas - at Cube Smart “ NOT FREE ! False advertising !
I paid cash + only for several hours 🤷🏻
I believe that Devon Storage offers a better option in the various size U-Haul vehicles at about the same price.
Dickie & Stephanie handle everything in office. After the tour of the facility, the Paperwork, U-Haul Rental,…maybe 20-30 minutes.
The major takeaway was the Exceptional Customer Service and the Desirable Units.
Exceeding “All” of my Expectations !!
Perfect hours. 6AM - 10 PM
Safe - Clean
Automatic Code Entry Gate
In their office, I felt like I was in a Small Town General Store.
Very Personable and Accommodating.
For them , It was about meeting My Needs.
Thank you, Dickie Lawrence & Stephania Beach
I was truly Enlightened by the Experience. ✝️🙏🫡

There are a 5+ great, safe, clean “professional” storage places within 1 mile. Choose another if I were you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I have no reason to write anything other than truth here—to save others from nightmares I’ve experienced firsthand. I rarely do reviews unless I feel the need to save others from great heartache.
You will be shocked at how poorly run by management this storage is, how toxic the communication is when you have valid issues in need of explanation, but most of all—the lack of maintenance nor care—muddy, rocky with potholes on every aisle. If you drive there yourself, you’ll see it seems like a junkyard. Especially in the back. Which creates rodents.
It’s scary to go there at night, in its woodsy location with homeless-like trash on the borders and in the back with RVs. I wouldn’t recommend this storage for females, nor male or female who must visit it alone.
Communication with management was awful—putting it mildly. Stephanie, assistant manager, in my personal experience, will refuse to let you speak with Dickie, the actual manager, if she is being out of line. Which in my experience, was almost every time we talked. She actually claimed “he’s on a vacation without knowing when he will return,” a laughable statement. The ultimate lier, it seems to me, and she seems quite comfortable and proud of how she behaves when doing so, when representing this property.
I asked for exact numbers I would owe on future dates. It seemed to me their late charges were similar to a "variable" APR, because they would not state a number someone would owe in the future. They were quite answer-prepared with no actual answer, often stating “not knowing” if you seek out transparency in numbers and number fluctuation—in advance. They just raised their rates, again, which seems to me, their normal protocol, and often.
I stated my original email had been hacked and password changed by hackers and I had no access and that I needed to update new email with her—her response was—“we can only send emails to original email”—and she refused to update it. So they continued to send my personal information—to hackers to read, and for me, to never be able to read. That was how she handles a hacking on a victim, in today’s world. You better hope you never have to change your email or phone with them.
I paid my storage in full, the days before auction date. They still cut my lock, and took photos of my storage contents, after being paid in full. Then left an auction coded lock on long past being paid up in full. The shadiness of their practice, in my opinion, represents the opposite of legit and ethical business practice. And my boxes had been rummaged through, which was clearly photographed, upon final pick up. When I never went to auction. Their lock which no one had combo to—but them, was on there almost a month past being paid in full—without my knowledge. Unethical business practice to support invasion of privacy and potential theft of contents.
Dickie addressed her toxic behavior to me by saying “everyone has a bad day.” Yes, I agree. So I pulled my initial truthful review, to support her “bad day.” Then Stephanie proved to have many bad days, to an unexplainable ethics level, this management behavior. And she is who you’ll mostly interface with, answering phone. Dickie seems to me, as lead general manager, to be weak in his efforts, to exhibit no strength at all, and no say whatsoever to control her, which creates a toxic experience with no good results for the client. Because no one supports control of the bad behavior by lower management front desk support there. No one is in charge there, of protecting the client.
Overall, I found that they, as a business, don’t behave like an actual legitimate business, in my personal opinion, but rather, had a “street feel” to their business ethics.
Rent at your own risk. You’ll wish you had listened to my well-documented experience here.
