Scratch the last review: I paid for a storage unit on February 13, 2026, with the intention of moving my belongings in on February 17, 2026. I completed the paperwork in advance to make the move-in process smooth. Randa showed me a specific empty unit and informed me it would be cleaned and secured with a temporary lock until I brought my own. She explained that once I arrived with my lock, they would remove theirs. I agreed. On February 16, I called the office to confirm that staff would be present during business hours the following day. I arrived on February 17 within those confirmed hours with movers I was paying by the hour, only to find no attendants on site. When I called, Jody informed me he was at the bank and would return in 20 minutes. Because I was paying movers hourly, I explained that I would unload my belongings outside the unit and return with more items. After leaving and coming back, I discovered the lock had been cut and someone else’s belongings were inside the unit I had already paid for. Randa later contacted me and stated there was nothing she could do until they determined whose items were in the unit. The only option offered was a different unit, not the specific one I had paid for and been shown. A solution—other than moving into a unit I did not want—has yet to be provided. As a result, I now have belongings— including a sectional couch— partially moved and will have to move some items myself to avoid paying movers twice. This situation caused unnecessary stress, inconvenience, and additional expense. The only staff member who was helpful was Manager Quadeerah, who allowed me to temporarily place my belongings in another unit while the issue is being resolved. I appreciate her assistance during an otherwise very frustrating experience.

At first I booked storage place it was $169.00 a month 10x10 ask for first floor Took forever to get contract done over on line their software didn’t work couldn’t finish contract. Called main office the lady on phone took my cc and charge for the month was supposed to be $169 After being charge she says there is a processing one time office fees about $ 29+ don’t know exactly since I wasn’t given receipt. She said you can finish contract upon arrival on site Clifton NJ since we having problems on computer. Ask her about lock padlock she replaced it’s cylindrical lock couldn’t me more inf other than cylindrical trying to tell me I can only buy lock from them. Ask if any insurance need it she replied it’s my choice if I want to. We arrived at location 1:30 pm no one in office light down office close called main office they telling me there is a worker in office bc phone line is busy. Looking at window phone is off the hook no one around after 30 plus minutes sleeping beauty arrives calming I was on my lunch break. Normally in place like this when customers come at different times a office worker display sign out on lunch … Ok we had no choice but to buy cylindrical lock and property protection sleeping queen shows us our bin bringing cylindrical lock. See pic I ask why did I have to buy $20 stupid lock she replied it’s company policy to make us buy their lock but seeing pic on some of gates people have their own padlocks. Granted place looks clean not many locks on gates meaning not exactly rented guess bc of scamming people and their policies. Stay away from that shady place they will lie to trap you get you to spend money total crooks dishonest typical greed 👎 Cost me for 1 month about $250 $80 dollars above quote for what was advertised as I booked on their internet site.
Good evening, I am writing to let you know what an awesome employee named Joey that works at Smart Stop Self Storage facility in Hillside, NJ. I rented a unit online, Saturday, December 6, 2025. Upon my arrival at Hillside, Joey sprung into his customer service mode. He walked me to the unit explaining how everything works. He is a very nice person. I do not know what acknowledgment you give your employees for outstanding customer service, he deserves employee of the month.
Randa was a pleasure to have assist me! She was very helpful and communicative. Answered all my questions.
