After spending the good part of the morning looking for storage units, I contacted 254 storage, who told me they only had one unit the size I needed. So, I signed the papers with 254 storage, paying them for the last week of June, plus some processing fees. I would not need it until July, but thought it prudent to rent it, since it was the only one left, according to the 254 attendant. So, decided to drive to the unit right after renting it to check it out. Well, I could not believe my eyes. The storage complex is located in an extremely unkempt lot (driving to the unit within the lot meant driving over a path that was covered with grass, and this path was barely wide enough for my SUV!). Once I found the unit, the metal door looked extremely weather-beaten, and when I opened the unit, it was about 1/4 full of someone else's stuff, which looked like it had been there for months. So, I called 254 and they told me to use another unit (funny, didn't you tell me at the start that you only had ONE unit of this size available?!). So, the door of the unit they recommended was in better shape, but the back wall (made of metal) had a 2-foot long X 1-inch wide gap through which insects and small reptiles could easily get through. I called 254, telling them that I could not put my valuables in such a unit, and that, given the condition of the units in the property, and the fact that navigating through the property would be almost impossible for a moving truck, I wanted to cancel the rental. The man I spoke with was polite, but he firmly told me that it was too late (in spite of the fact that I rented it less than one hour earlier!). He offered a different unit, as well as a different property. Curious that these are now available, yet I had been told there was only one left. Anyway, I proceeded to explain how disappointed I was, how unacceptable the situation was, and how it was hard for me to trust that any other unit of theirs would be suitable, given how they had misrepresented the one they rented to me. He was unmovable and said that it was too late to cancel. So, lesson learned: NEVER EVER rent a unit from 254 Storage. If I could, I would give them a negative star. RENTER BEWARE!!!
Just not in a good neighborhood... had to replace my lock, somebody tried to cut it... for the money, they should have 24h security but they don't... store at your own risk!!
