Mini U Storage - Athens

5 out of 5 - Based on 8 reviews

Starting at $159.00

The overall look is good . And the climate control units have kept my items very clean . I have 2 units there now . I would prefer a little later time to have access to my unit though . Say 10:00 instead of 9:00 at night . The manager John clearly knows the business and keeps things running smooth and keeps it really neat and clean . Impressive facility. I have already recommended the facility to several friends .Full Review
When I toured the units and determined which size I would need, I reserved the specific unit I wanted. We went back a couple of days later to sign the lease and “move in”. The lease process went smoothly and the agent was informative and made sure to show me how the locks work. She also answered any questions I had. I would definitely recommend Mini U storage for the price, convenience and customer service.Full Review

Fort Knox Storage - Athens

3750 Old Jefferson RoadAthens GA 306074.6 miles away
3 out of 5 - Based on 2 reviews

Starting at $59.99

I rented a storage unit from Ft. Knox. When I arrived to store my things, a person was living in my unit. The lock had been broken. A couch, clothes and bedding were in there. Also, there was no security gate or security cameras at the location. The unit was not rentable. Sitting in my full Uhaul in front of my unrentable unit, I called Ft. Knox and they were sold out in Athens. No more units. They wanted me to go to a unit in a different town, which was unacceptable to me. I was told a supervisor would call me in 10 minutes, which never happened. With a Uhaul full of possession and no storage unit, I just drove the Uhaul to Atlanta and put the things in my garage. This cost me time and money. I requested a refund for the unit. I placed 5 calls to Ft. Knox and was promised a manager would call me each time. The call from management never came. Finally, 13 days later I received an email from Ft. Knox denying my refund. The reason - I did not accept the out of town unit. I regret contracting with Ft. Knox.Full Review

Athens, GA RV Storage Tips

Most Common Types of RV Storage

Covered storage - While it’s usually the more expensive option, covered RV storage is the safest, most secure way to store your camper or trailer. In most cases, covered storage is simply a parking spot with a roof, however some facilities offer an indoor option which is just an over-sized version of a traditional self-storage unit (with drive-up access of course).

Uncovered storage - This storage option is basically an open parking space on the facility’s property, however because of its simplicity it’s also the least expensive option for RV storage. Some facilities do have paved parking areas specifically for motorhomes, but either way your RV will be outdoors and exposed to the elements – we recommend purchasing a cover if you go with this option.

Tips on How to Store a RV/Trailer at a Storage Facility

  • Measure your RV before you rent your unit to make sure you choose the right size
  • Give the camper a good cleaning before placing it in storage
  • Apply a coat of wax
  • Change the motor oil
  • Flush out the waste tanks
  • Purchase fuel stabilizer
  • Inflate the tires
  • Unload everything from your motorhome
  • Make sure the slide-outs are retracted
  • Once in storage, disconnect the battery
  • Make sure light can get into the motorhome
  • If possible, leave the vents open
