Faith is a great manager. A amazing lady and amazing smile.Full Review
The facility itself was nice enough, however I booked it online thru a listing, the Prop Manager never heard of (selfstorage.com). Over the phone I was told by her that I could come down and sign paperwork approx 12 days before move in so my employees could simply move straight in at a later date. So I made a special trip (100M round trip) to do just that, and when i arrive the PM told me I could not do that and I had to pay for rent effective immediately (add'l $80 of non-contemplated costs) or risk losing the space. This was contrary to what I was originally told over the phone. The PM was short and rather unpleasant to deal with during my first experience as a new customer.Full Review

⚠️ DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE: prices were good, but the ceilings are literal chicken wire, thieves pry it up, and Public Storage knows but doesn't care. 😕 We rented a large unit for 2021 and moved in many of our belongings. In August, we got a call that our mattress was in the hall and our unit's door was open: there'd been a break-in. Dresses and undergarments were ripped out of suitcases and thrown all over the floor, purses and IDs were rifled through, and the thieves stole laptops, a desktop, and a bike. The police immediately found the entrance: The chicken wire ceiling had been yanked up. It's apparently common for thieves to break in from above, permanently disable the door's cylinder lock from behind, and exit through the door. ➡️ The really sad part: This isn't new. 🤕 Public Storage's manager said this is the #1 cause of break-ins at the facility. There's no camera coverage and zero other ceiling protection: Literally anyone with a stepladder can start crawling over your unit. 😳😳 Naturally, Public Storage has no accountability for their building's top method of theft. You'd think they would close the Large Open Holes above units the first time a theft occurred. 🤔 Instead, they know about the obvious liability, haven't made any attempt to fix it, and don't take any responsibility when it's exploited. Don't make my mistake... go to another facility that will learn from times it missed the mark.Full Review

I arrived for my appointment (with a full car) but was informed that the network was being worked on and that the computers were down so they could not check me in. They said I would have to come back or check-in at another facility. Not happy, I pushed for when it would be available and fortunately, the tech said the network was now available. I was able to get checked-in and was assigned my space. BTW, the only reason I could not check-in online was that if you decline insurance (which was covered by my renter's policy) you are not able to complete the on-line check-in. Obviously, this is meant to sell you more insurance. Nikki was very nice to deal with but the system assigned me the wrong size space. Fortunately, I checked the space before loading up. She then had to do a transfer to another space. This time the space was the right size but it was locked up. She then had to walk me up to remove the lock and gave me a new one (you are required to use their special locks - which you have to buy). Except for the check-in hiccups, the space is new, clean and feels safe. The staff (I have met 3 of them) are all friendly and helpful.Full Review

San Jose, CA Car Storage Tips

Most Common Types of Car Storage

Indoor storage - Much like traditional self-storage, indoor storage units are the safest, most secure option for your vehicle, however because of that they are also the most expensive. Prices do vary by size, and some small cars/motorcycles can fit in a 10x10 or 10x15 unit, but your average size automobile will require a 10x20 unit.

Outdoor storage - Outdoor storage ranges from an unpaved lot to a dedicated parking spot on the facility grounds. Typically these spots are uncovered, however some outdoor options do have canopies you can park under. These spots will cost more than their uncovered counterpart, but they are still a much cheaper option than indoor vehicle storage.

Tips on How to Store a Car at a Storage Facility

  • Measure your car before you rent your unit to make sure you choose the right size
  • Give it a good cleaning before placing the vehicle in storage
  • Change the motor oil
  • Inflate the tires
  • Purchase fuel stabilizer
  • Once in storage, disconnect the battery
  • Don’t use a parking brake
  • Always keep your vehicle covered with a car cover
